Reading the Word
Cindy shared a word at the youth cell today that I feel very appropriate as we begin to enter the year of Sabbath.
She shared about reading the word of God and the 2 verses that spoke to me most strongly were:
"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he does shall not prosper."
Psalm 1:1-3
"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success."
Joshua 1:8
I had wanted to share about increasing the level of our awareness of God-consciousness in our daily lives if Cindy had not shared the word today. But she couldn't have taken those words right out of my mouth better than if I had said it myself.
Recently, the Lord had been reminding me and prompting me on how conscious I am about Him in my life, be it His presence or simply knowing His will. It occurred to me that I'm not as sensitive to Him as I had been before.
He began to reveal to me the root of the issue by asking me some very simple questions.
1) What have I been meditating upon day and night?
2) Have I been soaking myself in His word and presence which is prayer?
I began to examine my life and realised that I've been involved with the secular for much of my day, worrying and thinking of my work rather than meditating on Him and His word.
For the rest of us, it could be our studies, or even our hobbies, that had distracted us from our God. And because our hearts have been drawn away, we find our walk with Him stagnating, or that we don't seem to be growing spiritually at all!
The word of the Lord clearly states that as we meditate on the word of God He will prosper us. In the year of Sabbath, would we find the courage to put down our work, our studies, and even things that we love to do, so we can find success in them, contentment and satisfaction in our hearts? It seems like a paradox but that is exactly the journey of faith that the Lord is calling us into as we enter the year of Sabbath.
"Come and meditate on my word, day and night, put down your work and tutorials, your hobbies and your ambitions and see if I will not prosper you, fill you and satisfy you?"
this is the invitation of the Lord for us in 2008. Do we dare to let go and let God?
I was personally very convicted. As Cindy was sharing and for the rest of worship during service, I felt a heat coursing through my heart, and the Holy Spirit convicting me of how I had spent my time, prefering to meditate on the things of this world, rather than on Him and His word. I was personally challenged by Him to be serious about meditating on His word DAY and NIGHT rather than being flippant in my quiet time with Him, choosing instead to read a few lines of the bible, tell him my grouses and hit the bed.
Meditating on the word DAY and NIGHT, requires a conscientious effort to put Him first and above in our thoughts rather than the worries and pleasures of the day. It is a conscious effort to increase our awareness of Him through prayer and reading His word and listening and obeying Him daily.
Amen :)
